- The House of Vuk’s Foundation is one of the oldest buildings in this part of the city. Its construction began in 1870-1871. Initially, the architect of the building was Aleksandar Bugarski, but it is not known exactly what the building looked like.
- After its construction, the building underwent numerous extensions and alterations, conditioned by the needs and importance of the institutions that were located in it.
- Originally, it served as the head office of the Russian Imperial Consulate, then the Serbian institute for war orphans, and from 1878, it was used by the Ministry of Education.
- The first addition of a courtyard wing and restoration of the main façade were carried out according to a design by architect Branko Tanazević in 1912. Painter and decorator Dragutin Inkiostri Medenjak was put in charge of the interior.
