  • The first street lighting in Belgrade was introduced in 1830 during the reign of Prince Milosh. Before the advent of electricity, the streets were illuminated by hundreds of lanterns. At dusk, lantern lighters would roam the city carrying a gas can and a ladder
  • When Stanojevic returned to Belgrade after years of scientific exploration, he devoted himself to popularizing and commercializing his knowledge, particularly in electricity and refrigeration. He became actively involved in solving Belgrade’s lighting issues. The first public power plant in Serbia, constructed and supervised by Stanojevic, began operation in 1893 in the Dorcol area of Belgrade
  • This achievement placed Belgrade ahead of many European cities, lighting its streets with electricity. Over the next forty years, as the city expanded, the power plant underwent several upgrades, leading to the construction of a new facility in 1928, which now houses the Museum of Science and Technology
