- The suvača has three parts: the drive area, the milling area, and the miller’s room.
- The drive area has a pyramidal roof covered with shingle tiles.
- The central element is a huge wheel 20 m in diameter; the vertical shaft is called the popa.
- Horses walk on a brick track, turning the wheel; gears transfer the energy to the milling mechanism. 1–6 pairs of horses could be harnessed; usually 2 pairs worked at a time.
