  • Karađorđe’s Park is located at a historical site where in 1806 a camp was set by the Serbian army, led by Karađorđe, during the siege of Belgrade in the First Serbian Uprising. Soldiers killed in the battle were buried here and the place was arranged as the Insurgents Cemetery.
  • The monument erected in this cemetery by Prince Aleksandar Karađorđević in 1848 is the first public monument erected in the city.
  • The park began to form after the creation of this monument, and then further expanded in 1903 and 1904.
  • Out of the 50 original tombstones from the insurgent cemetery, 12 still survive, placed in a row during the arranging of the park.
  • Before the Second World War, an underground shelter was built in the park, in which 192 Belgraders were killed during the German bombing on April 6, 1941. The place of this tragedy is marked by a stone memorial.
