  • Manak’s house is a cultural monument on the outskirts of the Savamala. This building is an important testament to the times before Prince Miloš begun to transform this area in the hopes of turning Belgrade into a modern city.
  • The exact time of construction of the house is unknown. It may have been built at the time of the construction of “?” Tavern or later Residence of Princess Ljubica. It is an example of old Balkan city architecture.
  • There are several legends associated with this house. One of the owners of the house was Manak Mihailović, an Aromanian immigrant from Macedonia, after whom the house was named.
  • Today, the restored Manak’s House serves as an integral part of the Ethnographic Museum. The first floor hosts a permanent exhibition “Folk costumes and jewelry of the Central Balkan area from the 19th and the first decades of the 20th century”. A gallery space occupies the ground floor of the house.
