The house was built as a family residence in 1907 by Miloš Marić. He was a retired Šajkaši battalion officer and the father of Serbian scientist, Mileva Marić Einstein.

Although an accomplished scientist herself, Mileva Marić is most commonly known as the first wife of the great Albert Einstein.
The house was built by architect Mihajlo Petljanski in the neo-baroque style.
Mileva and Albert Einstein were occasionally visiting Novi Sad with their family until their divorce in 1914.
After the death of her parents, Mileva became the owner of the house. Later the house was passed on to her sons who she had with Einstein.
Mileva’s brother Miloš was also a recognized scientist and served as a Dean of the Medical University in Saratov, Russia.
