The house was built as a family residence in 1907 by Miloš Marić. He was a retired Šajkaši battalion officer and the father of Serbian scientist, Mileva Marić Einstein.

FACTS & NUMBERS

  • Although an accomplished scientist herself, Mileva Marić is most commonly known as the first wife of the great Albert Einstein.
  • The house was built by architect Mihajlo Petljanski in the neo-baroque style.
  • Mileva and Albert Einstein were occasionally visiting Novi Sad with their family until their divorce in 1914.
  • After the death of her parents, Mileva became the owner of the house. Later the house was passed on to her sons who she had with Einstein.
  • Mileva’s brother Miloš was also a recognized scientist and served as a Dean of the Medical University in Saratov, Russia.
