  • The Monument of Gratitude to France was unveiled in 1930 in Kalemegdan Park. It was created as a sign of friendship, mutual assistance and cooperation between Serbia and France during the First World War.
  • The monument was erected on the initiative of the French Schools Alumni and the Society of Friends of France, and was made by the famous Yugoslav sculptor Ivan Meštrović.
  • A bronze monument depicts an allegorical figure of a woman holding a sword, symbolizing France rushing to Serbia’s aid. The sides of the base of the pedestal feature narrative compositions in low relief, with depictions of military cooperation between the two countries, as well as France’s help in educating Serbian youth.
