  • The grounds of the October in Kragujevac Memorial Park are surrounded by gentle slopes. At the bottom of these slopes are the Erdoglijski and Sušički streams, which divide the entire complex into two distinct sections.
  • Scattered around this area are 29 graves, in which the victims who were massacred on the 21st of October 1941 are buried. The 30th grave is located outside of the memorial park in a suburb of Kragujevac called Centralna Radionica. This grave holds the remains of the 123 Serbs and Jews who were executed the day before, on the 20th of October.
  • The site of the 1941 massacre was turned into a memorial park in 1953. The following year, there was a competition in Yugoslavia to design this memorial park. The winners of this competition were Belgrade architects Mihajlo Mitrović and Radivoje Tomić, whose design was approved in 1955.
  • According to the plan, the October in Kragujevac Memorial Park represents a unique historical site in which the main focus is on the graves of the executed victims. All of the graves are connected by a circular road that is 7 km long. Throughout the memorial park, there are many footpaths and commemorative sites.
  • One of the most important aspects of the memorial park’s plan was that each of the graves is marked with artistic sculptures and monuments. So far, 10 monuments have been erected alongside 14 graves.
