  • The National Museum in Belgrade was founded in 1844. It is located in the city center, at 1a Republic Square.
  • It is a complex type of museum, dedicated to the protection, interpretation and promotion of the multicultural heritage of the Central Balkans and Europe, from prehistory to the present day, through archaeological, numismatic and artistic material and collections.
  • The National Museum also includes the Gallery of Frescoes, Museum of Vuk and Dositej and the Memorial Museum of Nadežda and Rastko Petrović.
  • Perhaps the most valuable item in the National Museum is Miroslav Gospels – the oldest and most precious Cyrillic manuscript, written around 1190.
  • In addition to a rich collection of Serbian and Yugoslav art, the National Museum also keeps works by world-famous painters and artists.
