  • Skadarlija is a bohemian quarter, a favorite tourist spot and a place where you can feel the spirit of old Belgrade.
  • Skadarska Street, after which the whole surrounding area is named, is about 500 meters long and located in the very center of the city.
  • Due to the proximity of the National Theater, many actors, poets, writers and painters lived here at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Consequently, famous taverns such as Tri šešira (“Three Hats”) and Dva jelena (“Two Deers”), some of the oldest in Belgrade, were opened in Skadarlija.
  • During the Turkish rule, Skadarlija used to be poorly lit and paved with cobblestones and that historic look is still preserved today.
  • Primarily or tourism purposes, the street was later reconstructed to resemble Skadarlija from the beginning of the 20th century. Today, it is one of the must see places for foreign and domestic visitors.
