  • The silhouette of Belgrade is dominated by the monumental edifice of the Temple of Saint Sava.
  • Built on Vračar plateau, this is the largest Orthodox church in the Balkans and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world.
  • It is said that the temple was built on the site where in 1594 Ottoman Grand Vizier Koca Sinan Pasha ordered the relics of Saint Sava to be burned.
  • Saint Sava, the most important Serbian saint, was the first archbishop and the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church from the 13th century.
  • In front of the magnificent temple building is a monument to the Serbian leader Karadjordje, as well as the building of the National Library of Serbia, the richest library in the Balkans.
