  • Commonly known as Saborna crkva (The Cathedral) among the city residents, this temple is one of the most important places of worship in the country.
  • This invaluable historical site is related to the fate of Belgrade in the first half of the 19th century. The town was just formed in the area around the Cathedral, thus this temple became a pillar in the struggle for independence from Turkish slavery.
  • The construction of the church began in 1837 and lasted for 9 years. By the order of Prince Miloš Obrenović, the Cathedral was dedicated to Archangel Michael.
  • Monumental in its shape and construction, it was one of the largest church buildings erected in the Principality of Serbia. It was designed in the style of classicism with elements of late baroque.
  • Among others, in Cathedral are the tombs of Prince Miloš and his son Mihailo, as well as the tombs of two Serbian greats – Vuk Stefanović Karadžić and Dositej Obradović.
