  • Even though it’s known as the Old Turkish Bath, the Hamam in the Lower Town was only built in the second half of the 19th century, when the Turkish garrison had already left Belgrade.
  • Aside from this one, there were two other Turkish baths in Belgrade Fortress (one from the 16th and one from the 18th century). There are no preserved remains of these baths.
  • At Easter time in 1944, when Belgrade was bombarded, the Hamam was partially destroyed.
  • After its reconstruction in 1965, it was repurposed to house the “Ruđer Bošković” Astronomical Society and Planetarium.
