The building in which tavern ‘The Three Crowns’used to be was constructed in 1902. The investor was Lazar Dunđerski, a member of one of the richest and most influential families in this region.

FACTS & NUMBERS

  • It was constructed according to the project of Imre Kvarcveger and architecturally shaped with eclecticism style features.
  • In this house was a well-known and popular tavern ‘The Three Crowns’, and even today it is known by this name, although the tavern was closed in the early 1940s.
  • On the same plot of land where the present building still stands was a smaller structure as early as 1799. In there was also a tavern operating under the same name. Its tradition was followed by all the later taverns at this place.
  • Serbs have a long and unique tradition of celebrating Slava or patron saint’s day. Back in the days when The Three Holy Hierarchs, the patron saint’s day of Almaška church was celebrated in this tavern, the opulent festivities would last here for several days.
