  • The Gallery of Frescoes of the National Museum is located in Cara Uroša Street. The Gallery keeps copies of frescoes and castings of sculptures that testify to the unique and significant art of wall painting, icon painting, miniature painting and architecture created on the territory of medieval Serbia and the Balkans.
  • It was opened in 1953 as the second museum of its kind in the world.
  • The Gallery of Frescoes was joined to the National Museum in Belgrade in 1973.
  • All the works in the Gallery are done by academic artists, specialized in the field. Their dimensions, method of production and unique characteristics are completely true to the originals.
  • The Gallery building was constructed in 1952, on a plot of the Bet Israel Synagogue which was demolished by the Nazis in 1944. The Jewish Community has donated the plot to the city of Belgrade under the condition that the future building is dedicated to culture.
