  • After his father’s death in 1909, József Ruff moved to Subotica with his mother and his brother Adolf.
  • Following in the footsteps of their uncle Julius Brummer, the owner of the First Subotica Bonbon and Chocolate Factory, the brothers started their own candy factory in 1917.
  • After Adolf’s death in 1921, József became the sole owner of the factory, which operated until 1942, when the Hungarian authorities suspended the delivery of sugar.
  • In 1948, the Yugoslav authorities stripped Ruff of ownership of the factory and created today’s Pionir factory.
  • Ruff’s rental palace has 10 business premises on the ground floor, as well as two-, three-, and four-room apartments on the first and second floors.
