- These lids are a unique type of ceramic product, characteristic of the famous Vinča culture which existed in this area during the Neolithic period
- Parts of more than 30 different prosopomorphic lids were found at the locality of Benska bara
- The lids had a practical purpose, i.e. they fitted on to and closed ceramic vessels-amphorae
- Their second function was protective – they enclosed and preserved the contents of the container
