  • Name Tašmajdan comes from Turkish words “Tas” – meaning stone and “Meydan” – meaning mine. Stone had been dug here since the Roman times. Many stones used for the construction of various Roman buildings of ancient Singidunum originate from the Tašmajdan quarry. There are also preserved Roman sarcophagi and tombstones built from the same stone.
  • There are several monuments and important sacral buildings around the area of Tašmajdan, as well as the protected naural zone of Miocene ridge Tašmajdan.
