- Tavern “Narodna gostionica”, later hotel “Nacional”, was built in 1868 and belonged to the group of so-called “Kalemegdan hotels”, which were built and opened after the Turkish surrender of the cities to Serbs in 1867.
- By the name”Nacional”, it was first mentioned in 1876 when it became a hostel for foreigners who came to Serbia because of the Serbian-Turkish war.
- Hotel “Nacional” is associated with the names of two prominent historical figures – writer Milovan Glišić, who spent the last years of his life there, and politician Nikola Pašić, who owned it from 1892 until his death in 1926.
